Scientists said that overweight or obese is associated with increased risk of premature death compared to normal weight and that risks were rising sharply heavier weight.
In the results inconsistent with the term "paradox of obesity," which refers to the possible existence of an advantage in weight gain, the researchers found that weight gain is responsible for one out of five cases of premature deaths in the United States and one of the seven cases in Europe.
Said Emmanuel de Angel Antonio from Cambridge University in Britain who co-led the research team "on average that people who are overweight lose nearly a year of average life expectancy for them while losing people who suffer from obesity moderate almost three years of life expectancy for them."
The results also show that obese men face this risk in particular.
Antonio said that "This is consistent with previous observations that obese men have an increased insulin resistance and liver fat and the risk of diabetes compared to women."
The World Health Organization estimates that 1.3 billion adults worldwide are overweight and 600 million others suffer from obesity. The prevalence of obesity among adults about 20 percent in Europe and 31 percent in North America.
Research and stressed the negative effects of weight gain and its relation to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart and stroke, and respiratory diseases and cancer.
But recent studies suggest that the obese person is probably at least has the rates of survival have led to confusion occurred about whether obesity leads to death or just cause damage to health.
And it examined the study, published in the journal "The Lancet" more than 10.6 million people participated in the data 239 large study in 32 countries over 45 years. And it recorded 1.6 million deaths by doing these studies that have been following up the participants for up to 14 years on average.
